Part 6: The Focus on Resurrection (vii) Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. (Titus 2:11-14)
God’s grace, revealed to all men, instructs sensible, righteous and godly living by the denial of ungodliness and by looking for the ‘blessed hope’. The Greek word καί (kai), translated as ‘and’, has in verse thirteen an ascensive use that means it is better rendered as ‘even’, thus meaning verse thirteen should read as such:

…anticipating the blessed hope even the appearing of the glory of our great God even Saviour Jesus Christ.

In other words, the ‘blessed hopeis the ‘glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ’. Notably, Heaven is not the hope.
